In fairy tales, hero always gets plenty of stuff for his deeds: princess, kingdom, life of plenty, happy ever after. In real life you don't get rewards for making an effort, going to great lengths and doing the right thing - you still will go home early and alone.

The only award for "doing the right thing" is that you have done the right thing.
